Sewing Instruction
From the absolute beginner through advanced sewist, my classes offer hands-on individual instruction and cheerleading. I teach group classes and workshops at studios around Portland, and private lessons at my own studio. Reach out and we can find the right option for you.
-
This 2 hour lecture style class covers everything you want to know before you start sewing garments from a pattern.
-
An excellent place to start! Students learn how to sew from a pattern and construct their very first garment. We cover the techniques, tools, vocabulary, and new skills needed for clothes making success.
-
This class is for the intermediate sewist who is ready to level up. We cover basic fit adjustments like changing the length and grading between sizes. Students will learn how to construct a collar with a band, sewing button plackets, box pleats, and how to attach a back yoke using the “burrito method”.
-
This class is the perfect introduction to pants making for the advanced beginner sewist. Learn how to construct slant pockets, make an elastic channel, topstitch, and hem.
-
This class is all about gaining confidence and learning pattern hacking techniques. Students will learn how to draft a peplum or skirt to attach to their boxy top, making a simple swingy sundress, perfect for summer!
Modern Domestic
-
The class for you if you love the camaraderie of social sewing, or need a little extra cheerleading. This lab includes guidance and instruction, but the open sew format allows students to work at their own pace.
